How much does interior painting cost in Calgary?

Interior painting in Calgary usually runs about $450 to $900 for a bedroom and $800 to $1,200 for a living room, walls only. Jobs under roughly 500 sq ft of wall area land near a flat $1,000; past that, budget about $1.95 per square foot of wall area, materials included, GST excluded.

What a Coatly interior job actually includes

The default scope is walls: furniture moved to the centre and covered, floors protected, nail holes and dings filled, patches sanded flush and spot-primed, edges cut in by hand, then two coats of premium low-VOC paint rolled on. Switch plates come off rather than getting painted around, and they go back on at the end.

Ceilings, trim, doors and baseboards are add-ons you toggle in the app, so the estimate you see reflects the job you actually want instead of a bundled number you have to argue with.

  • Walls patched, sanded, spot-primed and painted in two coats
  • Ceilings — flat or textured — cut in clean at the wall line
  • Trim, casing and baseboards caulked, sanded and finished
  • Interior doors and frames, brushed or sprayed
  • Full-home repaints, single rooms, and rental turnovers on a deadline

Why the colour looks different once it is on your wall

Calgary sits high and dry with a lot of clear-sky daylight, and that light is cooler than the showroom lamps most swatches are chosen under. A greige that reads warm on a fan deck can turn distinctly grey on a north-facing Calgary wall in February.

That is the whole reason the visualizer exists: it puts the colour on your photo, in your light, in your room. It is still a preview rather than a promise — sheen and lighting shift how any colour reads — so for a big commitment we still recommend a sample pot on the actual wall before the final call.

Paint and sheen we use inside

Premium low-VOC interior acrylics — the Benjamin Moore Regal Select and Sherwin-Williams tier of product rather than builder-grade. Materials are included in the estimate, not billed as a surprise line at the end.

Sheen is chosen by room, not by preference alone. Matte and eggshell hide drywall imperfection on big wall planes; satin belongs in bathrooms, kitchens and hallways where hands and steam land; semi-gloss goes on trim, doors and baseboards so they can be wiped without burnishing.

How long it takes

A single room is usually one day. A full interior runs three to five days depending on size and how many add-ons are in scope. Rental turnovers get scheduled tight around possession dates because that is usually the entire point.

You do not need to be home. Plenty of clients hand over access, follow the project status in the app, and come back to a finished space.

Questions people ask

Do I have to move my own furniture?

No. We move what is movable to the centre of the room and cover it, and we protect floors before anything is opened. If you have something genuinely fragile or very heavy, tell us in the project notes and we will plan around it.

How many coats of paint do you apply?

Two coats is standard and it is what the estimate assumes. A dramatic colour change — deep red over white, or white over a saturated colour — sometimes needs a primer coat first, and we flag that before starting rather than after.

Can you paint in winter in Calgary?

Yes. Interior work runs year-round here. Low-VOC products mean the smell is mild even with windows closed, which is exactly why interiors are the sensible thing to book between October and April while exteriors wait for the season.

Do you paint rental units and condos?

Regularly. Turnovers, whole-suite repaints and common areas. Condo work sometimes needs board approval or a booked elevator window, so let us know the building rules and we will schedule around them.

Is the instant estimate the final price?

It is an estimate, never a contract. It is built from your photos and the scope you selected. If something on site changes the work — heavy repair, unexpected wallpaper, damaged drywall — we tell you before we start, not after.
